Getting to know our staff is an important part of the Tiptoes Day Nursery experience because we believe it gives parents peace of mind. This month, it is the turn of Gemma Hawley to feature in our Meet the Manager series.

Which Tiptoes nursery do you work at and what is your role?

I am currently the nursery manager of our Bishop Burton Nursery but I am moving to be the manager of Gorton Road from January.

How long have you worked at Tiptoes?

Since August 2011 so nearly seven and a half years.

What does your day-to-day job entail?

My job is to ensure the nurseries are run to a high standard and kept clean and tidy. I work with the nursery nurses to make sure the children’s needs are met and the staff are planning appropriate activities to enhance the children’s development. I speak to parents too and support them when needed.

What do you like most about your job?

Having fun with the children, seeing them grow and develop into little characters. They always remind me why I went into childcare in the first place.

How do you like to spend your spare time?

Going for family days out, baking, watching films and long dog walks.

Tell us a funny fact or story about yourself …

When I started working for Tiptoes I was only 18 and quite shy. The owners took us all out for lunch. I don’t have a huge appetite and the biggest fish and chips you have ever seen came out for me. I was trying so hard to eat it all so I didn’t look ungrateful. The owners had realised I was struggling, laughed at me told me I didn’t have to eat it all. I was so relieved! This story gets brought up a lot now!
